Deuteronomy 18:18 (I will raise up a prophet like you)

Deuteronomy 18:15 records where Moses prophesied of Jesus' coming, and Acts 3:22 repeats the same thing thru the message of Stephen as he preached to the Jewish religious leaders shortly before his martyrdom. In this post, I want to take a closer look at the parallels between the life of Moses and Jesus by which the prophecies foretold, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.".

Before I go any further, I want to propose one way we can apply this Word to our lives so that it's not just information we can hear and consider nice; but that it would be a challenge to us to make a part of our lives not only for ourselves but to those we can share it with. And that is this: Just as Moses was used as a type of Christ; so we too can be a living allegory by the things Holy Spirit imparts to us. As followers of Christ, we've all been given seed that has grown or will grow into fruition. What I would ask from people who read this would be to ask God what are some gifts or wisdom He's given you that you can now relate and share with the people in your spheres of influence. All the while keeping in mind the Word of God which reminds us that Christ is our Head, but throughout our lives, He has given us leaders whom we submit to their authority. (As outlined in Hebrews 13:17) So it's for that cause I now write for their joy, our benefit, and for the glory of God this piece...

1. Beginnings

Moses - During the time of Moses' birth, there was an edict from Egypt's Pharaoh to destroy all Hebrew baby boys. (Exodus 1:15-22)

Jesus - Around the time of Jesus' birth, king Herod commanded that all the Jewish boys be slaughtered who were 2 years old and under. (Matthew 2:16)

2. Early Ministry

Moses - Moses' early ministry was doubted by the people of Israel.
(Exodus 4:1)

Jesus - Even Jesus' own brothers didn't believe in Him. (John 7:5)

3. Mid-Ministry

Moses - Moses' ministry was endorsed by God over power over water. (Exodus 14)

Jesus - Jesus' ministry was endorsed by God over His commanding of the sea's storm to be still. (Mark 4:35-41)

4. The Giving of Two Covenants

Moses - God established the old testament covenant on a mountain called Sinai. (Exodus 19)

Jesus - Jesus instituted another constitution on another mountain which we call The Great Commission. (Matthew 28:16-20)

5. The Delegation of Leadership

Moses - God transmitted His leadership thru Moses to captains of people. (Exodus 18:25)

Jesus - God led Jesus to choose 12 apostles who would lead His early church. (Luke 6:12-16)

6. The Atonement For Sin

Moses - God told Moses to get a snake and put it on a pole so that anyone who looks at it will live. (Numbers 21:8)

Jesus - God made Christ, who knew no sin to become sin for all mankind by hanging him on a cross for the forgiveness of the world's trespasses. (John 3:14-15)

7. The Burial & Resurrection

Moses - God commanded the children of Israel to go thru the parted waters of the Red Sea in order to cut all ties with Egypt once and for all. (Exodus 14)

Jesus - Thru Jesus, God commands all followers of the Lord to go under the baptismal waters of His burial and raise to newness of Life by His Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 10)
